How do we design a Peranakan tile?
From shophouses to heritage buildings, Peranakan tiles are hidden gems scattered across the streets of Asian cities. With their bold colours, intricate patterns, and rich symbolism, these tiles aren’t just decorative — they tell stories of identity, fusion, and timeless craftsmanship.
In this design challenge, learners take a closer look at the beauty and history behind Peranakan tiles. Then comes the creative twist: reimagine a tile of their own using patterns, colours, and materials that speak to who they are today. Through hands-on exploration, children connect past and present, blending tradition with modern expression, and learn about geometry in application — one tile at a time.

Embrace the unknowns. Ask better questions. Experiment. Enrich. We welcome 6 to 12 year olds to cultivate a growth mindset, design their own Peranakan tile while discovering how science plays its part in creating beautiful artwork – both in man-made creations and natural masterpieces.

Investment: SGD120 per learner + SGD20 for materials

Fees for our half-day camp include:
– All Growth Mindset Activities from 9:00am to 1:00pm
– Ratio of 1 facilitator to 5 children
– 1 tea break
– Experiment materials and equipment
– Materials for Peranakan tile project
Please note that the available slots for participants are limited and places will be taken up fast. We encourage you to enrol ASAP if you wish to secure your child’s place in the programme.
